Our aim with the YouReach Talks was to gain a comprehensive understanding of the issues students from underserved backgrounds face when it comes to picking their academic fields and navigating their educational journey. In April 2025, we began with these conversations at the Kailash Satyarthi Foundation in New Delhi, interacting with students at the organisation’s Chanakyapuri campus.
From talking about studying through the School of Open Learning (SOL) to the steps required to become a lawyer, students opened up about rough ideas and asked unanswered questions about their future. These conversations also reminded us of the importance of closely and empathetically listening to what students want, thereby meeting them where they are.
Through one-on-one conversations with students, we were able to understand their thoughts about the journey ahead of them after high school. From a twelfth-grade student who shared her dream of procuring the skill set required to run a parlor and attending an open college (because of the financial constraints that made regular college an impossible option) to a bright tenth grader who loves to dance and aspires to become a doctor, YouReach Talks was able to foster a safe space for students to share their dreams, anxieties, and questions about higher education. As a result of conversations with over 20 students, we were able to gain a firm grasp of the kinds of assistance and infrastructural support required for succeeding at competitive examinations.
The UpReach Fundraiser is a crowdfunding campaign created to support students at the NGO Hamari Pahchan gain better access to subsidised coaching and educational resources while preparing for entrance examinations like CUET, JEE, CLAT, NEET, etc., after high school. Keeping in mind the highly competitive higher education landscape of India, where socioeconomic disparities leave the dream of quality education out of reach for many bright students, this fundraiser is one of our major steps towards levelling the playing field.
Through this campaign, THEAC raised over 1,08,000 INR, and this amount was used to carry forward the conversation initiated during YouReach Talks, contributing towards fulfilling the specific learning requirements of students at the NGO. And this is only one of the many steps to usher in tangible change in THEAC’s long journey.
Having understood the specific concerns, anxieties, and questions students had during YouReach Talks, our aim with the OutReach College Access Sessions was to empower students with vetted and reliable information concerning financial support for higher education. Over the summer of 2025, we began facilitating workshops with high school students at Hamari Pahchan, leading sessions spanning a wide range of topics, including seminars on MBA vs MBBS, debates on why one’s major was the best to choose, and walkthroughs on using the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
From university and course options in STEM to Humanities and Law, these sessions closely explored a wide range of career trajectories to better understand how one can dig deep into the career of their choice using higher education
And learning was not just limited to conversations, debates, and discussions; we also made it an incredibly fun experience. At THEAC, our goal is, and will always be, to create a safe and healthy community of vibrant and energetic young minds!
