The Higher Education Access Collective (THEAC) is built with the hope of offering holistic support to high-school students to help them navigate undergraduate education – by providing information about higher education, subsidising coaching for exams, hosting workshops to raise awareness about the diverse academic options, and organising education fairs. At the heart of it, through conversations and resources, our goal is to help students understand the higher education landscape and secure financial aid to make the best use of all the opportunities they can access. The multi-step approach of the project includes YouReach Talks, which will comprise interviews with young students from Delhi NCR to understand their interests and needs, along with their career goals.
This will be followed by the Outreach College Access Sessions, which will include workshops on deciphering the complex higher-education landscape of India, thereby helping students secure financial aid. THEAC is also built upon two textual resources – The Reach for Each Pamphlet Series and The Reach for Each Textbook – an introductory primer to outline what education post-high school looks like and a detailed college access manual for 50 Indian universities. Lastly, to help these efforts flourish further, the project also includes the UpReach Fundraiser, which will collect funds to provide low-income families with exam coaching.
Step by step, THEAC hopes to fix the ignored problems in Indian education and help students get much better access to crucial learning tools and the financial assistance and resources required for the same. Here, we believe that every student deserves the chance to pursue a higher education, regardless of their background.
